But, as we all know things change.

In the past 5 years Brooklyn has slowly become a burgeoning hub of artisanal talent.

It seems as if over night countless gourmet restaurants and brilliant local business began to pop up.

Inspired by the d.i.y spirit of the local business, resident Frank Pizzurro opened up his boutique Brooklyn Denim in 2010.

Now let me give you a little background on Frank.

Frank has been in the denim industry for over 30 years.

His career began in Detroit as a buyer for a local boutique at the age of 23.

Soon after, Frank went on to become the retail director for lines such as Lucky,Dolce,Diesel, and AG.

Needless to say Frank is by no means a rookie to the industry.

His experience shows in the brands he chooses to stock.

Lines such as Tellason, Closed, Hudson, Earnest Sewn…and of course Will Leather Goods.

This past year Frank launched his own in house denim line “Brooklyn Denim Co”.

The collection is manufactured locally in Brooklyn and is inspired by modern fits, dark washes and classic men’s apparel .

When I asked Frank the difference between working for a large company and running his own business.

He simply stated ” It’s easier to do with other peoples money”.

I then asked him possibly the most cliche question in the book.

“Any advice for the young entrepreneur ? “

His response was to the point and refreshing.

“There is an immense amount of opportunity when the economy is tough. Big companies are unable to maneuver as easily as small companies.These larger brands are not being innovative. The younger designers and brand owners are pushing boundaries and tend to be far more creative. So do not be afraid …”
