Will Adler was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan — a city of grit, industry, and heart. But even as a kid, Will felt a restless pull. Creative, energetic, and always searching for meaning, he was often bored in the rigidity of daily life.
That restlessness became a fire. A desire to build, express, and connect.
After high school, he left for Chicago to study at the Art Institute, then pursued a career in theater and television.
From New York stages to Los Angeles sets, Will immersed himself in storytelling — until a Screen Actors Guild strike in 1981 forced him to pivot once again.
It all started in Detroit
From the Boardwalk to the brand
With a young family to support and few acting opportunities, Will followed his brother’s advice and took to Venice Beach, selling belts on the boardwalk. That small stand — Billy Belts — became the unlikely beginning of something far greater.Will wasn’t just selling belts. He was creating something meaningful with his hands. Something people could hold, wear, and rely on. What started out of necessity became a purpose: to build a brand rooted in soul, function, and timeless style.
